Immigration Process for International Students Transferring a Visa from Another U.S. Institution

Graduate program notifies Rackham that they have recommended the applicant for admission.

Applicant can view recommendation of admission in Wolverine Access.

Rackham emails applicant with admission.

Applicant accepts the offer of admission in Wolverine Access.

Student will receive an invitation email to M-Passport after accepting the offer of admission and creating their uniqname. Through M-Passport, student provides financial information, current immigration paperwork, and any dependent information to request their immigration document.

Rackham issues the required I-20 or DS-2019 after the SEVIS release date is determined by their previous university, indicated on the U-M Transfer-In Form.

When Rackham has issued the documents, the I-20 will be available in M-Passport for download. A DS-2019 must be shipped using eShip Global, or the student can request to pick up the document when ready.

Student arrives on campus by “reporting date” indicated on the I-20 or DS-2019.
