Location

Dearborn, MI (Remote)

Supervisor

Tracy Hall, Ph.D.

Description of Internship Project and Intern’s Role and Responsibilities

The Office of Metropolitan Impact (OMI) works to further develop the value and impact of mutually beneficial partnerships between the University of Michigan-Dearborn and external community partners. To help the university better understand its impact in the region and inform decision making, OMI collects data across campus every other year from all faculty, staff, and students about what they are doing with the community for the Engagement Inventory Report. The report is typically released every other winter semester, following the collection and analysis of engagement activity data. The intern will look at the data collection process and data analysis and help to better align these processes with new software systems and the university’s strategic plan. As part of this process, the intern will be involved in the following:

  • Researching best practices and understanding the field of community-university engagement scholarship and how other peer campuses collect data;
  • Analyzing data collected in the past, as well as the methods used to collect it, to identify where changes can be made;
  • Identifying possible methods and processes to increase efficiencies with both collecting data and distributing reports; and
  • Developing a plan to collect data from those who have responded as well as collecting more qualitative data from engaged faculty and staff.
