Description of Internship Project and Intern’s Role and Responsibilities

Storytelling for Social Change “Story Camp”: this is a role within a storytelling collaborative the Ginsberg Center is piloting this summer. The intern would serve as one of the leaders of this project, alongside Ginsberg matchmaking staff. The broader storytelling initiative is a response to increasing community requests for support with storytelling and communications work. We will be leading a team of students, a combination of undergrads and some early career graduate students, as they work with community organizations to produce story banks (collections of narratives that organizations can draw on for fundraising, marketing, advocacy, etc.) and some supportive products (images, audio clips, gifs, or very short videos clips) and guidance for how to use them. Building a story bank can help set up an organization for long term sustainable support well beyond the duration of the summer project. This initiative builds on the success of Ginsberg’s Evaluation and Assessment Collaborative that responds to community-identified priorities around capacity building and supports organizations’ ability to tell the story of the work they do and the communities they serve. The Ginsberg Center uses a unique outside-in approach to community engagement; this collaborative is a strategic response to data gathered from hundreds of local community organizations ranging from grassroots community groups to local government organizations.

The intern will help contribute to training curriculum, student training, facilitation, interview design, application of ethnographic/qualitative methodologies, and potential evaluation/assessment of the pilot and future program design (we’ve found this is usually a desirable skill for grad students).

Time commitment (i.e., schedule, days per week needed)

Part-time internship (20 hours per week)
Start date: Flexible, Early-mid May (after May 3).
End date: Flexible, Early August
Specific days of the week intern needs to be available: work will take place on weekdays; specific scheduling will be flexible but will need to be distributed over at least three days per week
