Munger Case Competition

Challenge for Student Teams

Rackham Graduate School is proud to present the Winter 2018 Munger Case Competition, in partnership with the Office of the Vice President for Student Life. Using a fictional $100,000 of seed money, your challenge is to create an action plan to effectively advance the university’s diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) strategic plan goals and objectives by the year 2020. Teams should consider the impact on students, faculty, staff, and the broader regional communities.

Registration Information

Registration closes on February 5, 2018, at 11:59 p.m. EST.

Guidelines for Submission

Your team’s action plan should contain the following:

  • Problem Statement: What is the particular challenge you are trying to address and what data show that the problem you’ve chosen exists?
  • Action Plan: What is the proposed intervention strategy and implementation plan?
  • Case Statement: What are the top one or two convincing reasons to invest in this strategy?
  • Financial Case: How are you going to use the $100,000, and how will that make a difference? What is the return on investment, and why is the proposed strategy a sound investment?
  • Sustainability: How will the intervention be sustained beyond the initial seed investment?
  • Metrics: How will you measure and assess the success of your intervention? Answers should be both qualitative and quantitative in nature.

Create a poster that Munger will print and display.

  • PowerPoint, Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop are most frequently used to create posters.
  • Formatting should be 40″ x 30″, with a large font size (preferably > 36 pt), and a resolution of 300 dpi.
  • The final format of your poster should be PDF.

Prepare an oral presentation up to five minutes in length (PowerPoint presentations and/or handouts are optional).

Submit your poster and any presentation materials to Lindsay Trahan no later than 11:59 p.m. EST on Friday, March 23, 2018.

Eligibility

Teams must consist of two to five University of Michigan graduate or professional students, including one Munger resident. At least one team member must be available to present during the Case Competition Showcase on the evening of Wednesday, March 28, 2018. Please contact Lindsay Trahan if you need assistance meeting this eligibility requirement.

Awards

Posters will be judged by the following criteria: coherence of plan, multidisciplinary aspects addressed, logic, analyses/metrics, realistic impact calculus, and overall impressions.

The winning team members will be awarded $1000 each. Two runner-up teams will be selected; each member will be awarded $250.
