Rackham Graduate School works together with faculty in the schools and colleges of the university to provide more than 180 graduate degree programs and to sustain a dynamic intellectual climate within which graduate students thrive.

Students are enrolled in Rackham degree programs (doctoral, master’s, dual degree, and certificate) taught and advised by faculty in graduate programs in nearly every school and college across the Ann Arbor campus. Rackham graduate programs are also located on the Dearborn and Flint campuses, where they are administered separately.

Immigration Process for International Students Currently at U-M Ann Arbor

Immigration Process

One

Graduate program notifies Rackham that they have recommended the applicant for admission.
Two

Applicant can view recommendation of admission in Wolverine Access.
Three

Rackham emails applicant with admission.
Four

Applicant accepts the offer of admission in Wolverine Access.
Five

Student will receive an invitation email to M-Passport after accepting the offer of admission. Through M-Passport, student provides financial information, current immigration paperwork, and any dependent information to request their immigration document.
Six

Rackham prepares the required I-20 or DS-2019 at end of the student’s last term of attendance.
Seven

When Rackham has issued the documents, the I-20 or DS-2019 will be available in M-Passport for download.
Eight

Student arrives on campus by “reporting date” indicated on the I-20 or DS-2019.

Hours: Admissions is open Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The office is closed Saturdays and Sundays and on university holidays.
