The Edward Alexander Bouchet Graduate Honor Society (Bouchet Society) is named for the first African American doctoral recipient in the United States (Physics, Yale University, 1876) and recognizes outstanding scholarly achievement, promotes diversity, and advances excellence in doctoral education and the professoriate. The society was formed in 2005 through a national chartre inagurated by Yale University and Howard University. The Rackham Graduate School at the University of Michigan has held a chapter since 2008.

How has the Bouchet Honor Society fueled your research and/or professional practice? Being part of the Bouchet Honor Society has strengthened my commitment to conducting research that uplifts underrepresented voices and is both excellent and socially responsible, while also providing me with a supportive community of scholars who model inclusive leadership and challenge me to grow as a researcher and leader.

What do you value most about being a member of the Bouchet Honor Society?
I value being part of the Bouchet Honor Society for its community of scholars, which inspires me to grow and pursue research, teaching, and leadership that create meaningful impact.

What advice might you give to Bouchet Society applicants?
Be authentic in sharing your passions, goals, and commitment to scholarship and service, and highlight how you hope to contribute to a community that values excellence, equity, and meaningful impact.
