Internship Connections: Rackham Doctoral Intern Fellowship Overview

Description: Bring your questions about internships! During this informal, conversational session, University Career Center and Rackham staff will answer your questions about doing an internship as a doctoral student. Topics we will cover include:
- How to talk to your advisor about making an internship a part of your graduate training
- Answering questions about Rackham’s Doctoral Intern Fellowship Program
- Strategies for looking for internships
- The benefits of doing an internship as a doctoral student
- How to make the most of an internship
- Tips for writing cover letters and resumes for internships
- Other questions you have about graduate internships
The second half of the session will include a panel of past Rackham Doctoral Intern Fellows to answer questions.
Internship Connections: Application Materials (Resumes and Cover Letters)

Description: This workshop is open to all graduate students seeking guidance on cover letters and resumes for positions beyond tenure track roles. It meets the needs of those applying for the Rackham Doctoral Intern Fellowship Program.
The process of synthesizing your academic experiences into strong application materials for jobs beyond academia can be challenging but rewarding. This workshop is a hands-on opportunity for graduate students to learn how to effectively develop a resume using the foundation that they have laid with information from their CV. Additionally, this session will include strategies for writing compelling, tailored cover letters, and thinking strategically about how these two documents complement each other.
Internship Connections: Rackham Doctoral Intern Fellowship Drop-in Q&A

Description: Bring your questions about internships and Rackham’s Doctoral Intern Fellowship Program to this informal drop-in session. Graduate Career Counselors from the University Career Center and Rackham staff will be available to answer your questions and discuss anything internship related – cover letters, resumes, interviewing, or guidelines for applying to Rackham’s program. Students are welcome to stop in anytime during the program to have their questions answered.
Internship Connections: Interviewing Tips & Strategies
Date: October 10, 2:30 – 4:00pm

Description: This workshop is open to all graduate students seeking guidance around interviewing for positions beyond tenure track roles, which can differ greatly from the academic job search process. It meets the needs of those applying to the Rackham Doctoral Intern Fellowship Program.
The workshop will focus on preparing graduate students to navigate the interview process, and to effectively answer questions by strategically articulating strengths and skills.
Internship Connections: Finding an Internship in Graduate School (Registration link TBD)

Description: This workshop is open to all graduate students. It meets the needs of those interested in pursuing student-identified opportunities through the Rackham Doctoral Intern Fellowship Program.
Internships are valuable professional experiences. However, finding the right internship opportunity can sometimes be a challenge. During this session, we will discuss strategies and resources to help you find and fund an internship that align with your talents and career interests.

Professional Development and Engagement is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The office is closed Saturdays and Sundays and on the following holidays: Thanksgiving (Thursday and the following Friday), Christmas through New Year’s, Memorial Day, Independence Day (July 4), and Labor Day.
