Example Scenario
A former undergraduate from the University of Michigan Ann Arbor campus changes their legal name after graduating. They plan on applying to a master’s program within Rackham. We advise that they use the U-M Human Resources Personal Data Changes eForm before submitting their application for admission, and request that their legal name be changed in their Ann Arbor campus records to ensure that the name entered in the application matches.
Supporting Gender Inclusivity
The Rackham admissions application now includes questions allowing prospective graduate students to provide their pronouns, select from an expanded list of gender identities, and submit the preferred name that they would like to be used when being addressed. Responses to the sex question will be removed from application materials generated by Rackham for admissions committees; and, if an applicant enters a preferred name, the preferred name will be used in lieu of the response to the first or given name question. These changes were made to support the gender inclusivity of the Rackham application and the efforts of programs to matriculate the students whom they admit.
