Core Skill: Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) is valuing multiple social identities and advocating for access and belonging for all persons. Diversity is about celebrating differences; equity is equal opportunity and access for all persons; and inclusion ensures differences are welcomed so that every individual feels a sense of belonging. DEI skills require cultural humility, challenging structural inequalities, and awareness of one’s own social identities.

Rackham Resources

Professional Development DEI Certificate

Rackham is committed to enhancing the development and training offerings related to diversity, equity, and inclusion for all graduate students and postdoctoral fellows and is now offering a Professional Development DEI Certificate. This program is designed to prepare graduate students to work in a diverse environment while fostering a climate of inclusivity.

Through diversity, equity and inclusion I can embrace and value the identity of others without losing the understanding that my identity is just as important. My active engagement in diversity, equity and inclusion gives me the unique opportunity to passionately participate in the thoughts, ideas and processes of others. It also challenges me to examine concepts that I can either add to and/or subtract from my own beliefs and values so that I become a better person and member of society.
