Douglas W. Roblin Predoctoral Fellowship Award
Douglas W. Roblin made a generous gift in gratitude to the University of Michigan for the education he received, and to support urgently needed research in response to the persistent crises in human health attributable to a range of psychosocial and socioeconomic stressors. The Douglas W. Roblin Predoctoral Fellowship Award is offered to meritorious doctoral candidates in Rackham programs whose research and scholarship address the psychosocial and socioeconomic determinants of human health.
Eligibility
Douglas W. Roblin Predoctoral Fellowship Award recipients will be selected from the Rackham Predoctoral Fellowship awardees. To be eligible, students must be advanced to candidacy by the Rackham Office of Admissions, Academic Records, and Dissertations no later than January 20, 2025 (for winter 2025 or earlier), and be eligible for the Rackham Predoctoral Fellowship.
Eligible students must be pursuing research in any of the following fields: anthropology, sociology, psychology, economics, political science, biology, medicine, or public health.
Selection Criteria
Recipients will be selected as part of the Rackham Predoctoral Fellowship process. Predoctoral Fellow recipients who meet the Douglas W. Roblin Award eligibility criteria may be selected as a Roblin Fellow.
In addition to the Predoctoral Fellowship selection criteria, Roblin Fellows will be chosen on the basis of research in any of the following fields: anthropology, sociology, psychology, economics, political science, biology, medicine, or public health. Preference in awards will be given to applicants doing innovative research aimed at exploring, understanding, and explaining the intersection of psychosocial or socioeconomic stress or stressors with human physical or emotional health.

Award Description
One to two awards, depending upon the availability of funds, are available. Awards cover full tuition and required fees, stipend of $41,310 (currently) for one academic year (fall, winter, and spring/summer terms), and GradCare health and dental (option 1) during the tenure of the fellowship. An additional $3,000 will be made available to the student as additional research support. Students may receive only one award. Awards are non-renewable and may not be deferred.
Nomination Process
Students must be nominated by their program. Any graduate program on the Ann Arbor campus may nominate Roblin Fellowship eligible students through the Predoctoral Fellowship nomination process. Students should contact their program regarding their selection and nomination process.
- To nominate a student, graduate programs must complete the Rackham Predoctoral Fellowship nomination process.
