Every year, the Rackham Graduate School hosts its Fall Welcome. This year, Welcome will take place on Friday, September 1, from 1:00 to 4:00pm. Our agenda of events is as follows:
- 1:00 to 2:00pm: Welcome Program (Rackham Auditorium)
- 2:00 to 4:00pm: Information Fair (throughout Rackham)
Five Reasons to Register and Attend
Fall Welcome is a great way to start off your graduate career. Here are five great reasons to register and attend:
1. Our Keynote Speaker: Dr. Sherene McHenry
Sherene McHenry is a former tenured professor turned professional speaker and the author of The Busy Student’s Guide to College and Career Success and Pick: Choose to Create a Life You Love. Pulling from her experience as a graduate professor and former graduate student, McHenry shares insights and quick tips for success in and out of the classroom. You won’t want to miss this powerful talk!
2. Connect with Campus Resources
Following our Welcome program, you will have the opportunity to engage with a variety of University of Michigan departments and programs. Learn about all the great resources the University has to offer, such as health and wellness resources, offices that support your identity, opportunities to connect with the community, and the many engaging programs offered through the Rackham Graduate School.
3. Connect with Student Groups
Getting involved in clubs and activities is a way to enhance your studies and connect with others outside your discipline. You will have the opportunity to connect with several student-run groups and learn about how they strengthen our campus. Of note, Rackham’s premier student groups—Rackham Student Government (RSG), Graduate Rackham International (GRIN), and Students of Color of Rackham (SCOR)—will be present. Make sure to say hello.
4. Pick Up Your Mcard
The Mcard is vital to everything you do on campus, and you can pick yours up at the Information Fair. In order to pick up your card on September 1, you must submit your photo online and follow these instructions in advance:
5. Free Cool Stuff
Stick around after the Fall Welcome Program and have a cool treat compliments of Rackham. Ice cream bars, ice cream sandwiches, and fruit popsicles will be on hand. This will also be a great time to meet some of Rackham’s staff and converse with fellow students.
