Dear Rackham Community,
On September 5, President Mark Schlissel and Provost Martin Philbert issued a statement regarding the Trump administration’s decision to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, which since 2012 has protected eligible undocumented students from deportation and provided them with work permits so they can find legal employment. For those of you who have not yet seen the statement, I encourage you to read it.
This decision to end DACA is deeply concerning to me. I would like to voice my strongest support for President Schlissel and Provost Philbert’s message that, “Our priority at U-M is ensuring that all of our students and scholars will be able to pursue their ambitions and the opportunities they have earned by being members of our academic community.” I share a commitment with all of Rackham's deans and staff to our mission of graduate education and support for every one of our students.
If this decision affects you or a fellow student you know, I strongly encourage you or them to contact Rackham’s Graduate Student and Program Consultation Services at 734.764.4400 for support.
In addition, CAPS has an embedded staff member dedicated to the Rackham Graduate School, Dr. Laura Monschau, who is available in the Rackham Building to work specifically with graduate students and can be reached at 734-764-8312. The University has also put together this list of resources, contacts, and other important information.
Rackham is working with units across campus to provide more details and support, and we will share updates as they become available.
Sincerely,
Mike Solomon
Interim Dean, Rackham Graduate School
