As part of a broader, campus-wide strategy of complementary efforts to support and enhance bilateral relationships between the University of Michigan and Minority Serving Institution (MSIs), the Rackham Graduate School will offer two related funding opportunities through the MSI Outreach and Collaboration Grant competition.
These grants seek to increase access of diverse students from MSIs to U-M through establishing, enhancing, and expanding inter-institutional faculty, staff, and student relationships and collaborations with MSI partners.
Two categories of grants have been created to support either exploratory projects or projects that will enhance existing relationships: MSI Outreach and Planning Grants, and MSI Collaboration and Implementation Grants.
MSI Outreach and Planning Grants will serve to build institutional rapport, trust, and mutually beneficial collaborations with the long-term goal of recruiting students into U-M graduate and professional programs. This funding program is designed to support U-M and MSI collaborations that are responsive to organizational and cultural differences, develop effective plans for communication and dissemination, and initiate pilot activities for future scalability.
Five (5) 12-month grants will award up to $8,000. Recipients of an MSI Outreach and Planning Grant will be eligible to apply for an MSI Collaboration and Implementation Grant during the 2020–2021 grant cycle.
MSI Collaboration and Implementation Grants will build upon existing, bilateral relationships and will support collaborations between U-M and MSI partners that have an established record of implementing effective activities and evidence-based practices.
Three (3) 18-month MSI Collaboration and Implementation grants will award up to $30,000. Awardees are only eligible for one-time funding.
Proposals should be limited to 2,500 words.
All proposals should be submitted to [email protected] by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, April 12, 2019.
A series of MSI Outreach and Collaboration Informational Sessions will be held in February and March. Informational session attendance is not required to be considered for the grant but is encouraged.
